Privacy Policy

1. Who we are

ScreenVocab is operated by Jun Kim (ABN holder, Perth, Western Australia). We provide a vocabulary learning service that processes screenshots to extract words and generate AI-powered stories.

This Privacy Policy is in accordance with the Australian Privacy Act 1988 and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs). For users in the European Union, the GDPR also applies; in any conflict, the stricter standard applies.

2. What we collect

• Account information — your name and email address when you sign up
• Screenshots you upload — stored securely in Vercel Blob storage to perform OCR text extraction
• Extracted words and stories — saved to your account in our database
• Payment information — handled entirely by Stripe; we never see or store your card details (see Stripe's Privacy Policy). Stripe is PCI-DSS compliant.
• Usage data — credit balance, upload history, and basic activity logs for service operation

3. How we use your data

• To provide the ScreenVocab service — processing your screenshots and generating stories
• To manage your account, credits, and billing
• To send transactional emails (account confirmation, payment receipts)
• To improve the service — we may review aggregated, anonymised usage patterns only

We do not sell your data. We do not use your data for advertising.

4. Overseas disclosure

Your data is processed and stored by the following third-party services, which may transfer data to servers located in the United States and European Union:

• Supabase — database and authentication
• Vercel — hosting and file storage
• Google Cloud Vision API — OCR processing of uploaded screenshots
• Anthropic (Claude) — AI word extraction and story generation
• Stripe — payment processing (PCI-DSS compliant)

By using ScreenVocab, you consent to this overseas processing. We only engage services with adequate data protection standards.

5. Data retention

Your account data is retained while your account is active. You may delete your account at any time by contacting us at gogi1293@gmail.com. We will delete your data within 30 days of your request.

Uploaded screenshots are stored only as long as needed for processing and are not shared beyond the services listed above.

6. Your rights

Under the Australian Privacy Act and GDPR (where applicable), you have the right to:

• Access the personal data we hold about you
• Request correction of inaccurate data
• Request deletion of your data
• Withdraw consent at any time

7. Data breach notification

In the event of an eligible data breach under the Notifiable Data Breaches (NDB) scheme (Privacy Act 1988, Part IIIC), we will notify affected individuals and the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) as required by law, within 30 days of becoming aware of the breach.

8. Cookies

We use only essential cookies required for authentication (session management). We do not use tracking or advertising cookies.

9. Complaints

If you believe we have mishandled your personal information, please contact us first at gogi1293@gmail.com. If you are not satisfied with our response, you may lodge a complaint with the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) at oaic.gov.au.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes by email or by posting a notice on the app. Continued use of ScreenVocab after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
